is the Golden Filter going to make cover bands cool ?!

Obviously there is nothing new about doing a cover song.  There have been countless cover bands the world over, and every once in a while a band you like might actually do a cover song that you like.  I know indie-acts like Harlem, Little Boots, Radiohead, and Bradford Cox have been dabbling in cover songs [...]

Kleerup (ft. Titiyo) “Longing for Lullabies” Official Video

Don’t you just love it when music videos have an intricate heart warming story, and a tear jerking happy ending?

You know what I love?  When sexy office girls fall in love at first sight with greasy office guys via assistance by blonde dead ex.
Just had to post the new video ’cause [...]

somebody needs to break Conor Oberst’s heart ASAP! (stream new song)

I’ve said it so many times before: Conor Oberst makes his best music when he’s totally despondent, or at least when he appears to be.  I don’t know, maybe he is still sad and just dealing with it better (via Xanax), but it doesn’t matter.  All that matters is that he take a page from [...]

Camera Obscura’s “My Maudlin Career” LP has officially leaked

Earlier this week Camera Obscura’s forthcoming LP, My Maudlin Career, was leaked.  Apparently the leak is a standard V2 “scene release,” so at least it’s of half decent quality.
My Maudlin Career was produced by Swede Jari Haapalainen (of Peter, Bjorn & John, and the Concretes) and will definitely be better than Peter, Bjorn & John’s [...]

am I still supposed to like Art Brut ?! (pseudo Art Brut vs Satan review)

I remember back in 2005 when Art Brut’s Bang Bang Rock & Roll was Pitchforked/Best New Music’d with reviewer Rob Mitchum writing that:
“When you start to measure the amount of music you listen to in gigabytes and jumbo-size Case Logics, it’s easy to forget the awesome power of the simple declarative statement… That it’s difficult [...]

Canada vs Ticketmaster

Sometimes being Canadian is really awesome.  Like when our government decides to create a law that prohibits Ticketmaster from selling tickets off of TicketsNow.  Full story here.

Obama Admin “in bed” with RIAA

[via Wired]
I know this file-sharing thing has been discussed and debated for a decade, and it’s kind of “all blogged out,” but it’s still depressing to hear that the likelihood of Obama supporting net-neutrality and a potential (and much needed) overhaul of copyright law is apparently diminishing by the day (just found out that two [...]

Harlem

“since we are giving away music for free it would be awesome if you bought our record because we are broke!!!” – Harlem

I first heard Harlem in the summer of 2008, and sort of forgot about them.  Not because I didn’t dig their music – I think I was just maxed out on lo-fi garage [...]

Iron Man + Metal Face = “Chinatown Wars” MP3

Few things are as exciting as DOOM/Ghostface collaborations.  A little while back I mentioned the Grand Theft Auto trailer that was scored by an original Ghostface/DOOM track.
Earlier this last week an MP3 surfaced of “Chinatown” in its entirety.  I know it’s been blogged about elsewhere, but it’s a good hip-hop track, and I’m on a [...]

The Flaming Lips “Borderline” (Madonna Cover) MP3 + Video

The Flaming Lips covered Madonna’s 1983 (the same year The Flaming Lips were formed) single “Borderline” – from her self titled debut LP – for a recently released Warner Bros covers compilation with a lovely title: Covered, A Revolution in Sound: Warner Bros Records (2009)
I haven’t listened to the whole compilation – actually “Borderline” is [...]
