Blind Man’s Colour. The Next Animal Collective!?

[Original BMC water colour painting]
Blind Man’s Colour is an unsigned band with serious potential.  I think they might still be in high school too (not sure though). And they spell “colour” like a Canadian.
Blind Man’s Colour have been posting music to their blog at a fairly prolific rate.  I found 2 LPs and an EP [...]

Rumor: PF’s Gay Grandma To Be Prime Minister of Iceland?

Johanna Sigurdardottir, 66, is an openly gay female Icelandic politician, and she is about to become Prime Minister of Iceland.
What does this have to do with PF?  A recent report from the most frequently updated blog in the bloghouse states that:
We have/don’t have evidence that Johanna Sigurdardottir is DJ PF’s gay grandma.
I haven’t been able [...]

Lykkie Li “Tonight”: New Live Video (via Alanis Morissette?)

“Tonight” is one of the extra tracks on the UK release of Youth Novels (2008)  – if you haven’t heard Youth Novels yet, it’s awesome.
In a blogpost this morning, Lykke Li says:
You might have noticed I got the nature fever. So I felt a great need to peel of all that is unnecessary and live [...]

Cyndi Lauper vs. Kleerup

Which do you prefer?  The original collaboration that appeared on Lauper’s Bring Ya To the Brink (2008)?
MP3: Cyndi Lauper – Lay Me Down

Or the “Thank You For Nothing” (not letting me use your vocals on my album) version that appeared a couple months later on Kleerup’s debut solo release?
MP3: Kleerup – Thank You For Nothing

I [...]

Vice’s Coverage of the Riots in Athens

Photo via Vice Magazine

On the 6th of December, 2008 a police officer in Athens shot and killed 15/16 year old Alexandros Grigoropoulos.  The policeman has since been charged with murder.  The boy’s death lead to a series of violent riots by anarchists and other upset citizens in Athens.
Unlike the major media outlets, Vice Magazine got [...]

Rolling Stone in a Post-Indie World

Remember when Rolling Stone introduced us to “the coolest kid in America” ???
Living in a post-indie world is pretty hilarious, and awesome.  You get to see the old powerhouse music publications/labels struggling to keep up/survive, and for the most part you can avoid the annoying mainstream music radio hits.  I suppose the only downside is [...]

Untimely News.MP3s.Videos_01/24/09

What is happening in the blogosphere today?
There’s those interesting recent newsbits over at Pitchfork about M.I.A. getting nominated for an Oscar and getting all witty with the press, Animal Collective getting “ill” and canceling a show, Kanye West denying that he’s going to shoot a bisexual porno with Blackzilla, and The Black Lips getting hit [...]

Animal Collective Live Set: MP3 & FLAC Downloads via Nyctaper

Nyctaper has been garnering some much deserved attention lately; partially due to Pitchfork’s recent plug, and largely because of his excellent recording of Animal Collective’s show last Tuesday at the Manhattan Center Grand Ballroom.
Here are two particularly interesting live songs from the set:
MP3: Animal Collective – Leaf House (live & reworked)

MP3: Animal Collective – Blue [...]

Pitchfork Does ABC News

Ryan Schreiber was on ABC News this week talking about his favorite new albums.
Watch it here.
Did Pitchfork/Schreiber do it to:
a) help mainstream America discover better music
b) garner attention to Pitchfork.com
c) help directly/indirectly raise funds to pay for the Panasonic DVX100APs that capture the original content on Pitchfork.tv
d) all of the above
I really wonder if [...]
